Carbon Credentials, energy savings

EPBD Air Conditioning Inspections

Is your office or factory air-conditioned? Then you will need an air conditioning inspection.

Air conditioning systems use up a lot of energy – up to 50% of a building’s output in some cases. That’s why the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) specifically targets it. A ’system’ includes all the equipment in a building which controls or lowers temperature – whether it’s one unit or several smaller ones…

As of January 2009 air-conditioned buildings with equipment using more than 250kW should have had their first air con inspection. If your building has not been certified yet, we can ensure you comply quickly.

Tempted not to bother? Ignoring the air conditioning inspection won’t make it go away. Fail to comply and your company faces strict penalties which could result in fines of £300-£5,000, depending on your building’s rateable value.

And just who is responsible for getting EPBD air conditioning inspections done? It’s the person who controls the operation of the air conditioning system, not the person who just changes the temperature dial. This could be the owner, a facilities manager, a servicing company or a tenant, should the building be rented out.

The good news? The goal of all new green legislation is twofold: to reduce your company’s carbon output, which is better for the environment, and save your business money.

Worried about the cost of an air conditioning inspection? To date, Carbon Credentials has always identified substantially more in energy savings than the cost of an air conditioning inspection. A win-win situation.
