The CRC order requires regular internal audits to be carried out by participants and signed off by an individual who exercises management control to confirm that records are complete, correct and adequate. The CRC audits need to be kept with the Evidence Pack and are a key part of consumption verification.

How do we facilitate CRC Audits?

In order to provide organisations assurance and direct guidance Carbon Credentials offer to facilitate the CRC auditing in line with the standard and process alluded to in the CRC order. You can find out more by looking at our whitepaper here

The process will illuminate areas of non-conformance and provide direction for the remedy of any non-conformance including observations that should be retained in the required audit trail. Furthermore a follow up meeting will check that remedies have been achieved enabling the senior officer to have greater CRC compliance assurance. It’s very much a risk reduction exercise.

We will check all aspects related to CRC energy efficiency scheme and provide a gap analysis of missing records. This not only helps in preparation of a transparent report, but also in facilitating a complete identification and verification process with non-conformities of CRC compliance. Key areas of CRC policies and procedures to ensure accurate reporting, as well as identifying consumption data inaccuracies are a critical part of the audit process.

With the carbon levy for next year at £12 per tonne, fines for inaccuracies over 5%, and estimated consumption attracting a 10% uplift, it is now critical to be as accurate as possible. A quarter of companies will be audited by the Environment Agency this carbon year so why not be safe?
